The Authority for Data Protection and Privacy of Communications (ADAE) is an independent administrative authority in Greece responsible for protecting personal data and the privacy of communications. It is entrusted with the task of ensuring that the processing of personal data in Greece is in accordance with the law. The Authority also oversees the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is a regulation of the European Union that standardizes data protection laws across all member states.
ADAE was established in 2017, replacing the former Data Protection Authority. It is composed of a board of seven members, who are appointed by the President of Greece for a term of six years.
ADAE has been active in enforcing the GDPR since it came into effect in May 2018. It has investigated a number of complaints and issued several fines for violations of the law. The Authority has also played a key role in raising awareness of the GDPR and providing guidance to businesses on how to comply with the law.
The Authority is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals and ensuring that their personal data is processed in a fair and transparent manner. It is an essential part of the Greek data protection landscape and will continue to play a vital role in protecting the privacy of individuals in the digital age.
As data privacy becomes increasingly important, the Authority is committed to continuing its work to protect the privacy of individuals and ensure that their personal data is used in a responsible and ethical manner.
