Τριων ιεραρχων

Τριών Ιεραρχών, the feast day in the Eastern Orthodox Church honoring the three great Cappadocian Fathers of the fourth century, has arrived to us in Greece. Here, this special celebration commemorates Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom. Saint Basil was a bishop in Cappadocia, and he is a theologian and ascetic. Saint Gregory the Theologian was a bishop, theologian, and poet in Cappadocia. Saint John Chrysostom was a bishop in Constantinople, and he is well known for his homilies.

I have always been fascinated by these three saints, especially St. John Chrysostom because of the golden, eloquent style he had in his sermons. He was a master of rhetoric, and his writings are full of beautiful imagery. He was also a strong advocate for social justice, and he spoke out against the abuses of power by the rich and powerful.

In one of his sermons, St. John Chrysostom said, "The true measure of a man is not how much he has, but how much he gives." This quote has always stuck with me, and it is a reminder that we should not be focused on accumulating wealth for ourselves, but rather on using our resources to help others.

The feast day of the Three Hierarchs is a time to reflect on the lives of these great saints and to learn from their example. They were men of faith, learning, and courage, and they dedicated their lives to serving God and others. Their legacy is a reminder that we are all called to use our gifts and talents to make a difference in the world.

As we celebrate the feast day of the Three Hierarchs, let us ask for their intercession and guidance in our own lives. May we be inspired by their faith and love and may we follow their example of service to God and others.
