When I first heard the name "Tang Yingjie", I thought it was a character from a Chinese novel. Little did I know that this name belonged to a real person, a man who has made a significant contribution to the field of Chinese language education.

Tang Yingjie was born in 1924 in a small village in Guangdong Province, China. He was a bright and eager student, and he excelled in his studies. When he was 18 years old, he was accepted into the prestigious Peking University, where he studied Chinese language and literature.

After graduating from Peking University, Tang Yingjie began his teaching career. He taught at several different universities in China, and he quickly gained a reputation as an outstanding educator. He was known for his clear and concise teaching style, and he was always willing to help his students.

In 1984, Tang Yingjie was invited to come to the United States to teach at the University of California, Berkeley. He accepted the invitation, and he taught at Berkeley for the next 20 years. During his time at Berkeley, Tang Yingjie taught a variety of courses on Chinese language and literature. He also wrote several textbooks and articles on Chinese language education.

Tang Yingjie was a dedicated and passionate teacher. He loved sharing his knowledge of Chinese language and culture with his students. He was also a strong advocate for Chinese language education.
