It's not every day you meet someone who can sing Cantonese opera like a nightingale. But that's exactly what makes Lui Chun-yip, or "黎振烨" as he's known on stage, so special.
I first heard Lui sing at a traditional teahouse in Guangzhou. The moment he opened his mouth, I was mesmerized. His voice was clear, powerful, and full of emotion. He sang with a passion that could only come from years of dedication and hard work.
After the performance, I got a chance to chat with Lui backstage. He told me that he's been studying Cantonese opera since he was a child. His grandfather was a famous opera singer, and he passed on his love of the art to Lui.
Lui's passion for Cantonese opera is evident in everything he does. He's constantly practicing, and he's always looking for ways to improve his craft. He's also a talented actor, and he brings a lot of depth and nuance to his performances.
Cantonese opera is a dying art, but Lui is one of the young artists who are keeping it alive. He's a true master of his craft, and I'm so grateful that I had the chance to hear him sing.
If you're ever in Guangzhou, be sure to check out Lui's performance. You won't be disappointed.
