Beware...The Cyber Crime!
The internet, a wonderful and brilliant invention. A way to communicate with friends long gone, a way to find out the latest news or to simply chate to your mates. But behind this facade hides a shadowy world of criminals, people who make a living out of hacking, stealing and selling YOUR information!
Be Cyber Savvy!
When using the computer and the internet you are immediately vulnerable to cyber crime, whoever you are, however there are many ways to protect yourself! Using simple software you can vastly reduce the ways you can be targetted and with a little bit of know-how you can avoid being drawn in completely...
-
Install internet protection, such as Norton or AVG, which can not only protect you on the internet, but also regually scan your computer for viruses, spyware, worms and many more.
-
Back up your files or even copy them onto a seperate memory stick, so even if your computer is effected you don't lose any of your files.
-
Double check where emails and website addresses have come from, don't open links or attatchements from unknown people, as this is an easy way of getting you to accidently download a virus or spyware.
-
Never give out personnal details online unless you are 100% sure who the recepitent is and where your details are going, if you get an email from a website or bank, double check by calling their customer services and they will be able to tell you whether it is genuine or not.
The Hacker
It is not only you and me who are targetted by cyber criminals, big companies, such as Sony and Nokia, are also victims. Recently Nokia announced that an online compunity set up for the develope ment of Nokia apps has been hacked!
They state that personnal information including dates of birth and email addresses may have been stolen and the forums have been temporarily shut sown while the sercurity breach is investigated.
At statement said, "Initially we believed that only a small number of these forum member records had been accessed, but further investigation has identified that the number is significantly larger!"
No-one has claimed responsibility so far.
