Accrington Stanley Football Club is an English association football club based in Accrington, Lancashire. They are currently members of League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. The club was formed in 1968 and is named after the original Accrington Stanley club, who were formed in 1891 and were one of the founder members of the Football League in 1888.
The original Accrington Stanley club folded in 1966, but the name was revived in 1968 when a new club was formed by a group of supporters. The new club quickly rose through the non-league pyramid, and in 1986 they were elected to the Football League Fourth Division. They spent the next 11 seasons in the Football League, before being relegated to the Conference National in 1997.
Accrington Stanley returned to the Football League in 2006, and have since established themselves as a mid-table League Two club. They have reached the play-offs on three occasions, but have yet to win promotion to League One. In 2018, they won the EFL Trophy, their first major trophy in their history.
Accrington Stanley play their home matches at the Crown Ground, which has a capacity of 5,057. The club has a strong following in the local area, and their fans are known as the "Stanley faithful".
