Who is Andrea Purgatori?

Andrea Purgatori is an Italian computer scientist and engineer who is best known for his work on computer security and privacy. He is currently a professor at the University of Milan and the founder and director of the Privacy & Security Lab.

Early life and education

Purgatori was born in Rome, Italy, in 1968. He received his undergraduate degree in computer science from the University of Rome La Sapienza in 1992. He then went on to receive his doctorate in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1997.

Career

Purgatori began his career as a research scientist at the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in 1997. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the University of Milan. He is currently a full professor of computer science and the director of the Privacy & Security Lab.

Purgatori's research interests include computer security, privacy, and cryptography. He has published over 100 papers in top academic journals and conferences. He is also the author of several books, including "Privacy-Preserving Data Mining" and "Network Security Technologies."

Purgatori is a member of the ACM, the IEEE, and the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). He is also a fellow of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS).

Awards and honors

Purgatori has received numerous awards for his research, including the ACM SIGSAC Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2005 and the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award in 2010. He is also a recipient of the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant and the ERC Consolidator Grant.

Personal life

Purgatori is married and has two children. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and traveling.
