Who is Anthony Davis?
Anthony Davis is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He made his debut in the league in 2012. Anthony is an eight-time NBA All-Star, four-time All-NBA Team member, and four-time All-Defensive Team honoree.
Early Life and Career
Born and raised in Chicago, Anthony attended Perspectives Charter School from 2005 to 2009. He spent his senior year at Simeon Career Academy, where he led the team to a 34-2 record and the Illinois state championship. Considered one of the top five recruits of the 2010 class, he was named a McDonald's All-American and Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2010.
At the collegiate level, Anthony played for the University of Kentucky for one season. He helped the Wildcats win the 2012 NCAA Championship, earning the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. He was a unanimous selection to the All-American teams and was named the NABC Player of the Year.
NBA Career
Anthony was selected first overall by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2012 NBA draft. He spent seven seasons in New Orleans, forming a formidable duo with DeMarcus Cousins. During his stint with the Hornets/Pelicans, he became one of the most dominant big men in the league, leading the NBA in blocks three times and finishing second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2015.
In 2019, Anthony was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he joined LeBron James to create a dynamic duo. Together, they led the Lakers to the NBA championship in 2020. Anthony averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in the 2020 Finals, earning him the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award.
International Career
Anthony has also represented the United States internationally, winning gold medals with the American team at the 2012 London Olympics, 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
