Asue Ighodalo: The Man Who Dared to Dream




Asue Ighodalo is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who has made a name for himself in both the legal and political arenas. Born in 1959 in Okaigben, Edo State, Ighodalo attended King's College Lagos before proceeding to the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he earned an LL.B Hons degree. He then returned to Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984.
Ighodalo began his legal career as a law clerk at the chambers of Femi Olubanwo & Co. In 1987, he co-founded the law firm Banwo & Ighodalo, which has since become one of the leading commercial law firms in Nigeria. Ighodalo has extensive experience in corporate and project finance, and has advised on some of the most high-profile transactions in Nigeria.
In addition to his legal career, Ighodalo has also been active in politics. He was elected to the Edo State House of Assembly in 1999, and served as the Speaker of the House from 2003 to 2007. In 2007, he was elected to the Nigerian Senate, where he represented Edo South Senatorial District.
Ighodalo is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and is considered to be a rising star within the party. He is a strong advocate for good governance and transparency, and has pledged to fight corruption if elected to office.
In the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election, Ighodalo is the PDP's candidate. He is facing a tough challenge from the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, but is confident that he can win the election and bring about positive change in Edo State.
