SOUTH CAROLINA PLAYER FINDING COMFORT IN NEW SYSTEM

The South Carolina basketball team has a new look this season, and one of the players who is embracing the changes is sophomore guard Erik Stevenson. Stevenson, who transferred to South Carolina from Wichita State, is averaging 12.5 points per game this season, and he is shooting 40.0% from three-point range.

Stevenson said he is enjoying playing in coach Frank Martin's system, which is more up-tempo than the system he played in at Wichita State.

"I'm really liking the system," Stevenson said. "It's a lot faster paced, and I'm getting a lot more shots up. I'm just trying to take advantage of the opportunities I'm getting."

Martin said he is pleased with the progress Stevenson has made this season.

"Erik is a really talented player," Martin said. "He can shoot it, he can handle it, and he can create for others. He's still learning our system, but he's getting better every day."

Stevenson is not the only player who is thriving in Martin's system. Junior guard AJ Lawson is averaging 16.0 points per game, and he is shooting 48.0% from the field. Freshman forward GG Jackson is averaging 14.5 points per game, and he is shooting 50.0% from the field.

The Gamecocks are 10-3 this season, and they are ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll. They are one of the most surprising teams in the country, and they are a legitimate contender in the SEC.
