The GLORY super-fight between heavyweight legends Badr Hari and Rico Verhoeven was shaping up to be one that lived up to the hype, until an unfortunate injury ended the fight. In the second round, Hari hurt his arm and the fight was called off, but he had been having success against the champion before the injury happened.

Though at the time it seemed that Hari had broken his arm due to a knee from Verhoeven, Hari revealed to Bloody Elbow that he actually sustained a muscular injury and will be able to return to the ring sooner than expected.

“I tore a muscle in my arm, that’s why my arm was [so visibly] swollen. I can’t tell you when it happened, the only thing I know is from the clinch I couldn’t move my arm so I looked at it and it start to swell so I had to stop, unfortunately,” he said.

“I still have pain in my arm but it is getting better day by day. I try to heal as fast as possible. I can’t wait to start training again. The rematch is coming. I want this as quick as possible. I think May or June will be a good time for this. Now it is up to GLORY to make it happen."

The judges had Hari ahead on the scorecards after a first round in which he found success against Verhoeven. He appeared to have not lost a step despite his relative inactivity as of late, and he managed to bloody the champion’s nose with hard punches while Verhoeven came forward.

Despite getting a TKO loss due to the injury in a fight he was winning, Hari says that the fight was validation for what he had been saying ahead of the contest.

“[The first-round score] is a confirmation of what I felt while I was fighting. He couldn’t lay a glove on me even if we stood in a telephone booth. He was starting to get frustrated. I knew this before the fight and now everybody knows it,” he said.

“That’s why it was so sour that I had to stop. But be honest, did you see me worrying, or in trouble? Like I said in the ring [after the fight], he became a man but he needs to be more to beat me. He is still not in my league.”
