Once upon a time, there was a boy named Bartram Ditterich. He lived in a small village with his parents and his sister, Brianna. Bartram was a kind and caring boy, but he was also very lonely. He didn't have any friends, and he often felt like he didn't belong.
One day, Bartram was playing in the forest when he came across a strange old man. The old man had a long white beard and a crooked nose. He was sitting on a stump, reading a book.
"Hello," said Bartram. "What are you reading?"
"I am reading a book of wishes," said the old man. "It is a very special book. It can grant any wish you make."
Bartram was amazed. He had never heard of a book of wishes before. He asked the old man if he could read it, and the old man agreed.
Bartram opened the book and began to read. He read about all the different wishes that people had made. There were wishes for wealth, for fame, for power. But Bartram didn't want any of those things. He just wanted to have friends.
So Bartram made a wish. He wished that he could have one true friend.
As soon as he made his wish, the book began to glow. A bright light filled the forest, and Bartram heard a voice.
"Your wish has been granted," the voice said. "You will now have a true friend."
Bartram looked up and saw a young boy standing in front of him. The boy had brown hair and green eyes, and he was smiling.
"Hello," said the boy. "My name is Simon. I'm your new friend."
Bartram was so happy. He finally had a friend. He and Simon spent the rest of the day playing in the forest. They talked and laughed, and they became best friends.
Bartram and Simon continued to be best friends for many years. They went through school together, they played sports together, and they even got married and had children together.
Bartram was always grateful for the old man who had given him the book of wishes. He knew that he would never have been able to find a true friend without it.
The end.
