Batik Air pilots fell asleep

The incident occurred on a Batik Air flight from Jakarta to Manado, Indonesia, on the 1st of April 2019.

According to reports, the two pilots fell asleep while the plane was cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet. The autopilot was engaged at the time, and the plane continued to fly on its own.

The pilots were reportedly awakened by the sound of an alarm, which was triggered when the plane began to descend rapidly. They were able to regain control of the aircraft and land it safely at Manado Airport.

No passengers or crew were injured in the incident. Batik Air has since issued a statement apologizing for the incident and promising to investigate it thoroughly.

The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) is also investigating the incident. It is expected to release a report on its findings within the next few months.

The incident has raised concerns about pilot fatigue. Batik Air has said that it is taking steps to address this issue, and has implemented a number of new measures to improve pilot rest and well-being.

These measures include mandatory rest periods, reduced flight hours, and increased training on fatigue management. Batik Air has also said that it is working with other airlines and industry stakeholders to develop new ways to prevent pilot fatigue.

The NTSC is expected to make recommendations on how to improve pilot fatigue management in its final report. It is hoped that these recommendations will help to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
