Beau Pribula, the Penn State quarterback who started the season as the backup but took over as the starter after Sean Clifford suffered an injury in the fourth game of the season, has entered the transfer portal.
Pribula announced his decision on social media, thanking Penn State for the opportunity to play for the Nittany Lions.
"I want to thank Coach Franklin, Coach Yurcich, and the entire Penn State football staff for giving me the opportunity to play at such a prestigious university," Pribula wrote. "I also want to thank my teammates and the Penn State community for making my time in Happy Valley so special."
Pribula started six games for the Nittany Lions this season, completing 61.3% of his passes for 1,212 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed for 329 yards and six touchdowns.
Penn State finished the season 11-2, including a 35-21 victory over Utah in the Rose Bowl.
Pribula is a redshirt sophomore and has two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to be a sought-after commodity in the transfer portal, as he is a talented quarterback with a lot of potential.
It is unclear where Pribula will end up, but he is sure to have plenty of options. He is a talented quarterback who has shown the ability to win games at a high level.
Pribula's departure is a blow to Penn State, but it is also an opportunity for another quarterback to step up and take the reins of the offense.
Penn State has a number of talented quarterbacks on their roster, including Drew Allar, Christian Veilleux, and Jaxon Smolik. Allar is a true freshman who is considered to be one of the best quarterback prospects in the country.
It will be interesting to see who Penn State names as their starting quarterback next season. Allar is the most talented quarterback on the roster, but he is also the least experienced.
Veilleux and Smolik are both experienced quarterbacks who have shown the ability to win games. Veilleux started four games for Penn State in 2022, while Smolik started two games.
It will be up to new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich to decide who will be the starting quarterback next season.
Penn State is a talented team with a lot of potential. However, they will need to find a new starting quarterback before the start of the 2023 season.
