DoBongani Bongo, 42, is a man of medium height, with a slim build and dark skin. He has short black hair and brown eyes. He is always well-dressed and has a friendly smile. He is a fluent speaker of English and Zulu. He’s a passionate advocate for restorative justice and a vocal critic of the South African criminal justice system.
Bongo was born in Soweto, South Africa, in 1980. He grew up in a poor family and lived in a township. He attended school and completed his matric. After school, he worked as a security guard. He met Rosemary in 2008, and they began dating. They lived together for two years before she was murdered in 2010.
On the night of the murder, Bongo and Rosemary had an argument. Bongo says that he left the house and went for a walk. When he came back, Rosemary was dead. She had been stabbed several times in the chest. The police arrested Bongo and charged him with murder.
Bongo’s trial began in 2011. He pleaded not guilty, but he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Bongo has always maintained his innocence. He says that he did not kill Rosemary and that he was framed by the police.
