Brian Hayes Cork




Brian Hayes (born 6 March 1960) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-Central constituency since 2011. He was an MEP for the South constituency from 2004 to 2011.
Hayes was born in Lissarda, County Cork. He was educated at the local national school and at St Colman's College, Fermoy. He went on to study at University College Cork, where he graduated with a degree in history and politics.
Hayes began his political career in local politics. He was elected to Cork City Council in 1999 and served as Lord Mayor of Cork from 2002 to 2003. He went on to be elected to the European Parliament in 2004.
In 2011, Hayes was elected as a TD for the Cork South-Central constituency. He was appointed Minister of State for Housing and Planning in the Fine Gael-Labour government. He served in this role until 2014.
Hayes is married to Fidelma Hayes and they have four children.
