'''Bruce Highway crash: Six men facing charges over fatal crash that killed an elderly couple'''

Six men have been charged over a fatal crash on the Bruce Highway that killed an elderly couple on the weekend.
The crash happened about 10.30pm on Saturday on the Bruce Highway at Gin Gin, north of Bundaberg.
Police said a Holden Commodore sedan and a prime mover collided head-on, killing the driver and passenger of the sedan.
The deceased were identified as 82-year-old man and a 80-year-old woman from Gin Gin.
Six men, aged between 20 and 32, were arrested at the scene.
They have been charged with two counts each of murder and armed robbery with violence.
The men appeared in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday and were remanded in custody to reappear on April 10.
Police said the investigation was ongoing and appealed for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The Bruce Highway is one of Australia's busiest highways, and has been the site of a number of fatal crashes in recent years.
In 2020, there were 24 fatal crashes on the Bruce Highway in Queensland, and 16 in 2021.
The latest crash has sparked renewed calls for safety improvements on the highway.
  • One local resident, who did not want to be named, said she was "sick of hearing about people dying" on the Bruce Highway.
  • "It's a terrible road," she said. "There are too many trucks and too much traffic. Something needs to be done to make it safer."
Another local resident, who also did not want to be named, said he was "afraid to drive" on the Bruce Highway.
"I avoid it as much as possible," he said. "It's just too dangerous."
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads is currently undertaking a safety review of the Bruce Highway.
The review is expected to be completed later this year, and will make recommendations on how to improve safety on the highway.
