Byron Kelleher




Byron Kelleher is an Irish singer-songwriter who first gained recognition as a member of the Irish traditional music group The Chieftains. Kelleher began his musical career at a young age, learning to play the accordion and piano. He later studied music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.
In 1970, Kelleher joined The Chieftains, and he quickly became one of the most popular members of the group. He played on many of the Chieftains' most successful albums, including "The Chieftains 4" (1973), "The Chieftains 5" (1975), and "The Chieftains 6" (1976). Kelleher also wrote many songs for The Chieftains, including "The Wind Against the Mountain" and "The Cliffs of Moher".
In 1980, Kelleher left The Chieftains to pursue a solo career. He has since released several solo albums, including "The Byron Kelleher Album" (1981), "The Wind Against the Mountain" (1983), and "The Cliffs of Moher" (1986). Kelleher has also collaborated with other musicians, including Paddy Moloney, Sean Keane, and John Williams.
Kelleher is a highly respected musician, and he is considered one of the greatest accordion players in Ireland. He has been awarded many awards for his music, including the Gradam Ceoil Award for Traditional Music in 2003.
