BYU Basketball: A Legacy of Success

BYU basketball has a rich history of success, dating back to its humble beginnings in the early 1900s. The Cougars have won 22 conference championships and have made 35 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 10 Sweet 16s and six Elite Eights.

The Magical March

One of the most memorable moments in BYU basketball history came in 1981. The Cougars, led by future NBA star Danny Ainge, upset the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers in the Sweet 16. BYU went on to reach the Elite Eight, where they lost to eventual runner-up North Carolina.

The Jimmer Show

In recent years, BYU has been led by a number of talented players, including Jimmer Fredette. Fredette was a two-time All-American and the 2011 National Player of the Year. He helped lead the Cougars to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 berth in 2011.

The Future is Bright

BYU basketball is in good hands with head coach Mark Pope. Pope is a former BYU player who has led the Cougars to two NCAA Tournament appearances in his first three seasons. He has also recruited a number of talented players, including freshman guard Spencer Johnson.

The future is bright for BYU basketball. The Cougars have a talented roster, a great coach, and a passionate fan base. They are poised to make another run at the NCAA Tournament this season.
