Working Conditions

 In a hospital, the environment is always
cold, but not too cold, to protect from harmful germs that
could spread throughout the hospital. Hospitals are also quiet
with the patients and families in the rooms. There might be a
little noise from chatting nurses or small conversations, but
mostly the hospital is very quiet. Working as a nurse means
always being on your feet, though it mainly depends on the
hospital you work at. If it is a busy hospital, a nurse would
almost never have time to sit down throughout their shift.
They are always doing things assigned to them, walking
throughout the entire hospital sometimes. Working as a
nurse always means teamwork. Each nurse must be friends
with the other nurses to survive the job as a nurse in an
LDRP unit. There may be a situation, and they need another
nurse to help them. Such as a birth emergency and a nurse
cannot be available at the time so they need another nurse
to fill in for them. The career requires a lot of teamwork.

 

Personal Qualifications

 Working in this unit means you have to have
a nice personality because it deals with
caring for the patients and babies. You have
to be nice and caring for them and make
sure they have a nice visit before and after
their delivery. You have to have a positive
attitude the whole time you're working.
Working in this position definitely means
you'll need patience, a good attitude, nice
personality, and many more great qualities.

Employment Outlook

This career can produce many opportunites in the
medical career over the years as advancement
occurs. The more years worked, the more chances
of promotion into higher positions. Working in the
LDRP unit already pays quite a bit, and as you
advance your pay becomes very high. Doctors and
higher positions get payed very well. It develops
your medical knowledge greatly and you can get
great positions based on the amount of medical
information you know.

 

Salary

Nurses in this unit usually get
payed $26 to $34 an hour.
Most shifts are 12 hours, so
for each shift you get a
couple hundred dollars.
Averagely nurses work 3-5
shifts per week.
 

 

Hours Normally Worked

Nurses in this unit normally
work 12 hours. Whether it's
from 7 am to 7 pm on day
shift, or 7 pm to 7 am on
night shift. It's normally a
quite long shift in this career.

Job Duties

Primary responsibilities include triage,
labor, delivery, postpartum and
newborn care often simultaneously in a
LDRP unit.  It's mainly caring for the
patients through delivery and dealing
with delivery, labor, and helping the
patients through the time.

Level of Education

There are generally three educational
approaches to becoming a registered nurse.
Registered nurses usually train by completing
a bachelor's or associate's degree program in
nursing. Less commonly, registered nurses
prepare for the occupation by earning a
diploma in nursing. Graduates of any of these
programs are generally eligible for licensure
and entry-level employment as registered
nurses.
 

 

Location of Work

In this career the location is
obviously in a hospital. Mainly in a
large or small section of the
hospital depending on the size.
The unit consists of many rooms
for the patients to stay in during
labor and delivery.

 

Tools or Supplies

Today's nurses are often equipped with the
biggest, newest and latest technological
equipment to perform their jobs, but they
also rely on standard equipment and tools
that have been around for decades.
Depending on location, specialty and facility,
nurses around the world are best able to
perform their duties with a handful of tools
that are easily carried in a pocket, on a cart or
at a nurse's station.
