Charlie Hurley




Charlie Hurley (1904–1979) was one of the most famous Gaelic footballers of his era. He was the captain of the Kerry team that won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 1930 and the captain of the Ireland team that won the Tailteann Cup in 1931.
Hurley was born in Tralee, County Kerry, and began playing Gaelic football at a young age. He was a member of the Kerry minor team that won the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship in 1922. He made his debut for the Kerry senior team in 1924 and quickly became a key player. He was a member of the Kerry team that won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 1926, 1927, and 1928. He was also a member of the Ireland team that won the Tailteann Cup in 1927 and 1928.
Hurley was a versatile player who could play at any position on the field. He was a strong and physical player who was known for his tackling and his aerial ability. He was also a good shot and scorer.
Hurley retired from inter-county football in 1932. He continued to play club football for Tralee Mitchels for several years. He was also a selector for the Kerry team for many years.
Hurley was a great ambassador for Gaelic football. He was a role model for young players and he helped to popularize the game throughout Ireland. He was a true Kerry legend and one of the greatest Gaelic footballers of all time.
