Chat and snack with WAC! The OSU Writing Across the Curriculum program invites you to join our fall semester reading group, which brings together teachers from across the OSU curriculum for small-group discussions and light refreshments. Our focus this semester is Writing Analytically, an often-used textbook in English 1110 at OSU, and its connections to questions like these:
● What does it mean to write analytically, and how do processes of inquiry compare across the disciplines?
● How do we teach an effective process for research, analysis, and writing?
● What skills and learning goals are commonly pursued in English 1110, and what’s their relationship with student writing experiences across the OSU curriculum?
● How is the OSU writing curriculum received by our increasingly intercultural student population, including ESL students and students with diverse backgrounds and literacies?
For participants who commit to at least three of the five sessions, we’ll provide a free copy of David Rosenwasser and Jill Stephen’s Writing Analytically, Sixth Edition!
We’ll meet on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 PM to discuss the following:
● October 3, Writing Analytically: What Does It Mean and How Do We Teach It?
● October 10, Reading Critically and the Ground Rules for Interpretation
● October 24, Paper in Process: The Evidence-Thesis Evolution
● November 7, Building on the GEC Requirements: A Visit from OSU Writing Program Administrators
● November 28, Using Sources, Framing Problems: Entering an Academic Conversation
We’re limiting each session to 20 participants, so sign up now! To RSVP, visit this site:
