Dear Children,
I’m sitting here writing this letter to you on a cold winter day. The wind is blowing, cloudy skies, and snow flurries surround me. The weather is so cold that I can see my breath as it falls off lips and hits the air like a cloud of smoke. And yet as I stare into the atmosphere all I can think about is “The sky above, sand below, and peace within.”
When I close my eyes to meditate, I think about the one place on earth that brings peace to me soul. I love this place because I can travel there in my mind and in the physical. Each time I go I find a new strength within that I never knew I had. No experience is the same as the last. I call it the beach! Best Escape Anyone Can Have (B.E.A.C.H.)
When I step foot on the beach the first thing, I want to do is take off my sandals and watch my feet sink into the warm sand. Once I have laid my towel down, I like to wiggle my fingers and toes in the white soft sand. I can’t explain the feeling of it when it’s rubbed against my brown skin.
As I sit back and watch the ocean, I notice how every wave has its own pattern. So gentle but powerful. As the sun bounces off the waves it shows unique colors of Turquoise, navy blues, and crystal-clear waters, as it rushes up to meet the shore. “Shuuushhhhh” is the sound that I hear in my ears every time ocean makes a move. The waves give off a settle breeze that I can feel through my scalp. When I close my eyes, I’m able to take in all the sounds and smells that are around me. I hear people full of laughter and joy, I hear seagulls chirping and flying above my head, as they wait for someone to drop food. I can still smell salt in the air as it comes off the salty ocean. So relaxing to my body and mind.
The beach takes my breathe away with its beautiful horizon at sunset. My favorite part is to look out into the horizon and see where the sky meets the ocean. I’m amazed at how God has made such a marvelous place like this on earth. My children I pray that you’ll be able to visit the beach one day and have the same experiences I’ve had. Always remember this “Be sure of yourself. Come out of your shell. Take time to coast. Avoid pier pressure. Sea life’s beauty. Don’t get so tide down on work that you miss out on life’s beautiful waves.”
