Costco Canada Faces Class-Action Lawsuit for Alleged Overcharging

Costco Canada class-action lawsuit

A Quebec law firm has filed a class-action lawsuit against Costco Canada, alleging that the retailer has been overcharging customers who purchase products online compared to in-store prices. The lawsuit, filed by Perrier Attorneys, alleges that the practice violates the Competition Act.
The proposed class action seeks an injunction ordering Costco to end the practice of charging more online than it does in store, as well as damages for customers who have been overcharged.
The lawsuit comes after a similar class-action lawsuit was filed against Costco in the United States in 2020. In that case, the plaintiffs alleged that Costco charged higher prices for products sold online than for the same products sold in stores. The case was settled in 2022, with Costco agreeing to pay $11 million to customers who had been overcharged.
It is not yet clear how the Costco Canada lawsuit will proceed, but it is likely that the parties will engage in mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution before a trial date is set.
If you have purchased products from Costco Canada's website and believe you have been overcharged, you may be eligible to join the class-action lawsuit. You can contact Perrier Attorneys for more information.
