Craig Bellamy

"Cardiff City legend and former Wales captain Craig Bellamy has sent a heartfelt message to Cardiff fans following his decision to step down from his coaching role at the club."

Bellamy, who represented the Bluebirds for eight years during his playing career, has been a hugely popular figure in the Welsh capital since retiring in 2014.

The 43-year-old took up a coaching role with the club's academy in 2019, and was promoted to first-team coach in 2021.

However, following Cardiff's relegation to the Championship, Bellamy has decided to step down from his role.

In a statement released on the club's website, Bellamy said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to step down from my role as first-team coach at Cardiff City.

"This was not an easy decision to make, but it is one that I believe is in the best interests of the club.

"I would like to thank the owners, the board of directors, and the fans for their unwavering support during my time at the club.

"I have had some amazing experiences here, and I will always cherish the memories I have made.

"I wish the club all the best for the future, and I will always be a Cardiff fan.

Bellamy's decision has been met with sadness by Cardiff fans, who have taken to social media to express their gratitude for his service to the club.

Many fans have also called for Bellamy to be given a role in the club's hierarchy, with some suggesting that he could be a future manager.

Whether or not Bellamy returns to Cardiff in a managerial capacity remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that he will always be remembered as a club legend.

He is a role model for young footballers, and his passion and commitment to the game is an inspiration to us all.

Thank you for everything, Craig.
