Crystal Palace vs Stockport: A David and Goliath Tale
Eberechi Eze's early goal gave Crystal Palace a deserved 1-0 victory over League One side Stockport County in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Eagles were clear favorites going into the match, but Stockport put up a valiant fight and made things difficult for the Premier League side.
In the end, though, it was Palace's quality that shone through. Eze's goal was a thing of beauty, and the Eagles could have scored more if they had been more clinical in front of goal.
Stockport can be proud of their performance, but they will be disappointed not to have caused an upset.
The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at Selhurst Park, and the atmosphere was electric. The fans were in good voice throughout, and they played a big part in helping Palace get the win.
After the match, Eze said: "It was a great feeling to score the winning goal and help the team get through to the next round. Stockport made it difficult for us, but we showed our quality in the end."
Palace manager Patrick Vieira was also pleased with his team's performance. He said: "I'm very happy with the win. Stockport are a good team, so it was a good test for us. We played well and created a lot of chances. We could have scored more goals, but overall I'm happy with the performance."
The win gives Palace a much-needed boost ahead of a busy period of fixtures. The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday when they host Manchester United in the Premier League.
