This is the Lord’s prayer, the one that Jesus taught to his disciples as a pattern. It shows us the kinds of subjects we should concentrate on when we spend time with God.
This is a really important passage about what makes prayer effective and powerful. It uses the example of Elijah; if you're not familiar with his story, it's in 1 Kings 17.
Jesus told the first of these two stories to show us that we shouldn't give up easily in prayer; sometimes the results don't come straight away! And he told the second story to illustrate the attitude we need to adopt in prayer. We shouldn't be self-satisfied and smug, but just amazed that God will listen to us in the first place...
