Delfin Lorenzana: A Filipino Patriot with a Vision




Delfin Negrillo Lorenzana, OLH, KGOR, is a retired Philippine Army general who served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from 2015 to 2016, Secretary of National Defense from 2016 to 2022, and Chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) from 2022 to 2024.

Lorenzana was born on October 28, 1948, in Midsayap, Cotabato, Philippines. He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy and the Ateneo de Manila University. He also holds a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.

Lorenzana's military career spanned over 40 years. He served in various posts, including as commander of the 4th Infantry Division, the Philippine Army Training and Doctrine Command, and the Armed Forces Civil Relations Service. He was also a member of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

In 2015, Lorenzana was appointed as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines by President Rodrigo Duterte. As Chief of the General Staff, Lorenzana was responsible for the planning and execution of military operations, as well as for the training and education of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

In 2016, Lorenzana was appointed as Secretary of National Defense by President Duterte. As Secretary of National Defense, Lorenzana was responsible for the overall administration of the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Lorenzana's tenure as Secretary of National Defense was marked by a number of significant events, including the Marawi siege, the Battle of Butig, and the Philippine-American War Centennial.

In 2022, Lorenzana was appointed as Chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Lorenzana is a recipient of numerous awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Star, the Philippine Legion of Honor, the Bronze Cross Medal, and the Military Merit Medal.

Lorenzana is married to Teresa Lorenzana and they have four children: Delfin Jr., Teresita, Josephine, and Cristina.

Lorenzana is a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
