Dental veneers are custom-made shells that are wafer-thin used to cover the front surface of teeth made up of tooth-colored materials designed to improve your appearance. They are also called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates. For the teeth that are changing their color, size, shape or even length, these shells are bonded to the front of the teeth.
Veneers are the best natural or enhanced version of the teeth if they are properly crafted and customized. Dental veneers are perfect to have a natural smile in a relatively non-invasive way for someone who doesn’t have extensive damage to their teeth.
Getting a dental veneer usually requires three trips to the dentist
Consultation
To take measurements for the molds
Applying the veneers
The dentist will examine the teeth and then discuss the procedure of applying veneers and some of their limits.
To prepare a tooth for a veneer, your dentist will reshape the tooth surface. The amount of tooth to be eroded depends on the thickness of the veneer. The dental veneer’s cost also depends on the amount of work to be done.
Next, your dentist will make a model, or impression, of your tooth. This model is sent out to a dental laboratory, which makes your veneer.
On the 3rd visit to examine its fit and color, your dentist will place the veneer on your tooth, and check for fit and finish. The dentist will trim the extra veneer if any to achieve the proper fit, before permanently cementing it to your tooth. With the shade of cement to be used, the color of the veneer can be adjusted. Before the veneer is applied to your tooth, the dentist will clean, etch and also polish your tooth. A special cement that hardens on a beam of light is applied to the veneer and is then placed on your tooth. Once the veneer is properly positioned, your dentist will shine a special light beam which will activate the chemicals in the cement hardening it. Lastly, all the excess cement is removed and the fit and look are checked again along with your bite and final adjustments are made. The dental veneers before and after remain the same.
