Derek Draper




Derek Draper (born 1953) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender.
He began his career with York City and made his debut on 3 October 1970, aged 17. He also played for Hull City, Rotherham United and Halifax Town. He joined Halifax Town in 1979 and made over 300 appearances for the club. He retired from playing in 1987.
After retiring from playing, Draper worked as a coach for Halifax Town. He also had a spell as caretaker manager of the club in 1991. He left Halifax Town in 1992 and joined Hull City as a youth coach. He was appointed manager of Hull City in 1994 and led the club to promotion to the Second Division in 1996. He left Hull City in 1997 and joined Burnley as manager. He was sacked by Burnley in 1998.
Draper returned to Hull City in 1999 and was appointed manager of the club for a second time. He led the club to promotion to the First Division in 2001. He was sacked by Hull City in 2002.
Draper then worked as a coach for Leeds United and Manchester City. He also had a spell as manager of Lincoln City in 2004. He was appointed manager of Aldershot Town in 2005 and led the club to promotion to the Football League in 2008. He left Aldershot Town in 2009 and joined Grimsby Town as manager. He was sacked by Grimsby Town in 2010.
Draper then worked as a coach for Scunthorpe United and York City. He was appointed manager of Alfreton Town in 2013 and led the club to promotion to the National League in 2014. He left Alfreton Town in 2016 and joined York City as manager for a second time. He was sacked by York City in 2018.
Draper is currently a coach for York City.
