Did Arteta Make a Terrible Mistake at Arsenal Last Summer?

It's often said that you can never have too many options at your disposal - especially when it comes to the beautiful game. But as any Arsenal fan will tell you, this isn't always the case.
Last summer, the Gunners were linked with a move for a number of central midfielders, including Houssem Aouar, Yves Bissouma, and Ruben Neves. In the end, however, they opted to sign Martin Odegaard on loan for the season.
Odegaard had been a long-term target for the club, and many fans were excited by the prospect of seeing him play in the Premier League. However, his performances have been disappointing so far, and it's fair to say that he has not lived up to expectations.
The Norwegian international has struggled to adapt to the physicality of the English game. He has also been criticized for his lack of creativity and goal threat. As a result, he has found himself out of the team on a regular basis.
In contrast, Aouar and Bissouma have both enjoyed impressive seasons for Lyon and Brighton respectively. They have both shown that they have the quality to play at the highest level, and they would have been valuable additions to the Arsenal squad.
It's still early days, but it's clear that Arsenal made a mistake in not signing one of these two players last summer. Odegaard has not been good enough, and the Gunners are now paying the price.
Of course, there is still time for Odegaard to turn things around. But if he continues to struggle, Arsenal may well regret their decision not to sign Aouar or Bissouma.
Only time will tell whether Arteta made the right choice last summer. But for now, it's safe to say that Arsenal fans are far from convinced.
