Did You Know That Your Phone Is A Massive Pet Peeve?

By Tom Craig
Surely you've witnessed it before. You're trying to talk to somebody, but their eyes can't seem to tear themselves away from their phone. They might give you a vague nod and an "uh huh" every so often, but it's clear that they're not really engaged in the conversation.
Or maybe you're in a meeting, and someone's phone goes off. The person hurriedly turns it off, but not before everyone in the room has heard the telltale "ding" of a text message. It's a small thing, but it can be incredibly distracting.
I'm not saying that we should all give up our phones. They're incredibly useful tools, and I rely on mine every day. But I do think that we need to be more mindful of how we use them and how they affect the people around us.
Here are a few tips for using your phone more politely:
-
  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you're in a meeting or having a conversation with someone, put your phone away. It's not only rude to be on your phone when you're supposed to be paying attention to someone else, but it can also be dangerous.
  • -
  • Turn your phone off or on vibrate when you're in a public place. There's nothing more annoying than sitting in a quiet room and listening to someone's phone go off over and over again.
  • -
  • Don't use your phone while you're driving. It's illegal in many places, and it's also incredibly dangerous.
  • - Be respectful of other people's space. If you're in a crowded place, don't hold your phone up in front of someone's face. It's rude and it can be dangerous. - Don't use your phone as a weapon. If you're angry with someone, don't throw your phone at them. It's not only dangerous, but it's also a waste of a perfectly good phone. By following these simple tips, you can use your phone more politely and avoid driving your friends, family, and coworkers crazy.
