Diwali 2024: The Festival of Lights

As the nights grow longer and the days grow shorter, we approach the time of year when India comes alive with the vibrant colors and lively spirit of Diwali, the festival of lights.

This year, Diwali will be celebrated on October 31, 2024. It's a time for families and friends to come together, exchange gifts, and light up the night with fireworks and diyas (clay lamps).

Diwali is a five-day festival, and each day has its own significance:

  • Day 1: Dhanteras is the first day of Diwali. On this day, people clean their homes and businesses and buy new clothes and jewelry.
  • Day 2: Naraka Chaturdashi is the second day of Diwali. On this day, people worship Lord Krishna and seek his blessings.
  • Day 3: Lakshmi Puja is the third day of Diwali and the most important day of the festival. On this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and pray for her blessings.
  • Day 4: Govardhan Puja is the fourth day of Diwali. On this day, people worship Lord Krishna and pray for his protection.
  • Day 5: Bhai Dooj is the fifth and final day of Diwali. On this day, brothers and sisters exchange gifts and sweets, and sisters pray for the long life and happiness of their brothers.

Diwali is a time of joy and celebration, and it's a time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the year to come.

So as the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, let us all come together to celebrate the festival of lights and spread joy and happiness throughout the world.
