Eliase Urruchua Gets Lost: Tales of a Travel Novice

They say that travel is the best teacher, and I couldn't agree more. But let me tell you, for a travel novice like me, Eliase Urruchua, every journey is an adventure, and not always in a good way.

Take my first trip to Paris, the City of Lights. I had my heart set on seeing the Eiffel Tower, but somehow managed to end up in the catacombs. Instead of breathtaking views, I found myself surrounded by millions of skulls and bones. Talk about a change of scenery!

Then there was that time in Venice, when I thought I could navigate its canals with ease. Big mistake. Imagine me, Eliase Urruchua, in a tiny gondola, lost and bewildered, with a gondolier who spoke no English and I, no Italian. We drifted aimlessly for hours, becoming the laughingstock of the city's bridges.

But my most epic fail has to be my attempt to hike the Grand Canyon. As I set off on the trail, I couldn't help but think, "Eliase Urruchua, you've got this." Well, that confidence lasted about 10 minutes.

The heat was unbearable, the trail was endless, and my water bottle was mysteriously empty. As I staggered along, I realized I had somehow wandered off the path and was dangerously close to the edge of the canyon. Panic set in as I imagined myself tumbling down those sheer cliffs.

Just when my hope was fading, I heard a faint sound. It was a helicopter! I waved my arms frantically, and to my relief, they spotted me. Rescued from the brink of disaster, I felt a mix of embarrassment and gratitude.

These misadventures might make me sound like the most incompetent traveler on the planet, but they've taught me invaluable lessons. I've learned the importance of thorough research, proper hydration, and having a basic understanding of the local language.

More importantly, I've discovered that even in the most lost and bewildered moments, I can always find a way to laugh at myself and embrace the unexpected. So, to all my fellow travel novices, I say: don't fear the unknown. Embrace it, and always remember that getting lost can sometimes lead to the most unforgettable adventures.
