Last Friday the 18 year long occupation of Afghanistan by Western forces came to an end as the last U.S. Military plane left Kabul. The news has been met with worry and concern for Afghan nationals as the nation is now controlled by the Taliban.
Social Democrat representative Eoin Hayes weighed in on the current situation as it stands:
\\\"Afghanistan has been undergoing a very difficult time for the past few months. Especially women and girls who now fear for their safety as the Taliban has taken control.\\\"
\\\"Right now, the people of Afghanistan need food, water, shelter. They need medical care. They need peace.\\\"
\\\"The international community must step up and do more to help the people of Afghanistan. We must provide humanitarian aid, and we must work to ensure that the Taliban respects the rights of all Afghans.\\\"
\\\"Canada has a responsibility to help the people of Afghanistan. We have been involved in the war in Afghanistan for many years, and we have a moral obligation to help those who have been affected by the conflict.\\\"
\\\"This will take a long time, there is always more work to be done, but if we can work together we can build a better future for all Afghans\\\"
