While the hardwood on your stairs is probably beautiful, it can get really slippery which is a problem, especially if you have little kids. A ceiling fan is really nice because it circulates the air in the room and helps maintain a regular temperature. In the summer, it can help cool the rooms while in the winter, it can actually help circulate the warm air around the room.
