Fock Siew Wah was born in Singapore in 1940. He studied at the University of Singapore, where he obtained a degree in economics. After graduating, he joined the civil service, where he held various positions in the Ministry of Finance and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
In 1986, Fock Siew Wah was appointed as the founding chairman of the Land Transport Authority (LTA). He was responsible for overseeing the development of Singapore's public transport system, including the construction of new MRT lines and bus networks. Under his leadership, the LTA also introduced a number of innovative initiatives, such as the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system.
In 1996, Fock Siew Wah was appointed as the chairman of PSA International. He led the company's expansion into new markets, and he also played a key role in the development of the Port of Singapore as a global hub for trade and shipping.
In addition to his work in the public and private sectors, Fock Siew Wah was also a director of several non-profit organizations. He was the founder and chairman of the Singapore Management University, and he also served as the chairman of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
Fock Siew Wah was a man of great integrity and dedication. He was always willing to put the interests of others before his own. He will be remembered as one of the architects of modern Singapore.

I had the privilege of meeting Fock Siew Wah on several occasions, and I was always impressed by his intelligence, his vision, and his commitment to public service. He was a true gentleman, and he will be deeply missed.
