Fulham–Ipswich: A Tale of Two Penalties




Fulham and Ipswich Town played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday, with Raúl Jiménez scoring twice from the spot for the hosts.
Ipswich took the lead through Sammie Szmodics in the first half, but Fulham hit back through Jiménez's first penalty just before the hour mark. Liam Delap restored Ipswich's lead in the 71st minute, but Jiménez leveled again from the spot in the 90th minute.
The draw leaves Fulham in ninth place in the Premier League table, while Ipswich remain in 18th place.
The Match
Fulham started the match brightly and had the first chance of the game when Aleksandar Mitrović headed wide from close range. Ipswich gradually grew into the game and took the lead in the 38th minute when Szmodics finished well after being set up by Conor Chaplin.
Fulham pushed for an equaliser after the break and were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute when Delap fouled Mitrović in the area. Jiménez stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick.
Ipswich regained the lead in the 71st minute when Delap headed home from a corner. Fulham continued to press for an equaliser and were awarded a second penalty in the 90th minute when George Edmundson fouled Mitrović. Jiménez again converted the spot-kick to earn Fulham a point.
The Reaction
Fulham manager Marco Silva was pleased with his team's performance, saying: "We showed great character to come back from behind twice. We created a lot of chances and could have won the game, but I'm happy with a point."
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna was disappointed with the result, saying: "We played well for long periods of the game, but we made some mistakes that cost us. We need to be more clinical in front of goal and cut out the errors if we want to start climbing the table."
