Born in Katowice, Poland, on March 9, 1962, Jan Furtok was a natural goalscorer from a young age. He began his career with GKS Katowice in 1979, and quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in the country. In 1983, he helped GKS win the Polish Cup, and the following year he was part of the Polish team that won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Furtok's performances for GKS Katowice earned him a move to Eintracht Frankfurt in 1986. He spent four seasons in Germany, scoring 49 goals in 124 appearances. He also helped Eintracht Frankfurt win the DFB-Pokal in 1988.

In 1990, Furtok returned to GKS Katowice. He helped the club win the Polish Cup again in 1991, and he was the league's top scorer in 1992. He retired from playing in 1998, but he remained involved with GKS Katowice as a coach and director.

Furtok was a true legend of Polish football. He was a prolific goalscorer, and he played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe. He was also a key member of the Polish national team, and he helped them win the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in 1984.
