George building collapse

A four-storey building in Lagos state has collapsed, killing many people. The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 8, 2023, at about 10:00 am, at 24 Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

The building was said to be under construction when it collapsed, trapping many workers inside. Rescue workers are currently at the scene trying to rescue those who are still trapped.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but investigations are ongoing.

This is not the first building collapse in Lagos state. In 2021, a 21-storey building collapsed in Ikoyi, killing 44 people. In 2019, a four-storey building collapsed in Ita-Faaji, killing 20 people.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of buildings in Lagos state. Many buildings in the state are old and in poor condition. There is also a lack of proper regulation and enforcement of building codes.

The Lagos State government has promised to investigate the cause of the collapse and to take action to prevent future incidents. However, it is clear that more needs to be done to ensure the safety of buildings in the state.

In the meantime, residents of Lagos state are advised to be careful when entering buildings. They should check to make sure that the building is in good condition and that it has been properly inspected.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the George building collapse. We hope that the rescue workers are able to save as many people as possible.
