George Clooney: Actors on Acting

As a huge ER fan, one of the reasons I started watching was because George Clooney was on the show. I’ll admit, I was a teenager, and a boyish George Clooney was very easy on the eyes, but I was also fascinated by the character of Doug Ross. He was a doctor who was flawed and had a ton of personal demons, but he was also incredibly compassionate and brilliant. I loved that about the character, and I loved that George Clooney was able to portray that so well. But as I got older, what I came to appreciate even more about George Clooney was his intelligence and his sense of humor. He’s one of those actors who always seems like he’s in on the joke, and he’s not afraid to poke fun at himself or the industry.
In a 2014 interview, Clooney was asked about his advice for young actors. He said, “I tell them, ‘Don’t do it unless you have to.’ Because at the end of the day, that’s what it takes. It takes a kind of passion that makes it very difficult to have a normal life. But if you have that passion, then you have to do it. You have to give it everything you have.”
Clooney’s advice is spot-on, and it’s something that I think about a lot, especially when I’m talking to young people who are thinking about getting into acting. There are a lot of sacrifices that you have to make to pursue a career in acting. You have to be prepared to work long hours, and you have to be okay with not knowing where your next paycheck is coming from. You have to be willing to put yourself out there and be vulnerable, and you have to be able to handle rejection. But if you have that passion, then I say go for it. Nothing is more fulfilling than being able to do what you love for a living.
Clooney has had a long and successful career in Hollywood, but he’s never forgotten his roots. He’s always been willing to help other actors, and he’s passionate about giving back to the community. In 2010, he founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which works to promote justice and human rights around the world. He’s also a strong advocate for gun control, and he’s spoken out against the violence that has plagued our country in recent years.
Clooney is not only a talented actor but also a good man. He’s intelligent, compassionate, and generous. He’s a role model for all of us, and I’m grateful for the work that he does on and off the screen.
