Gerod Ordaz: The Time He Mistook a Raccoon for a Cat

I can't believe this happened to me! I mean, I know it's funny now, but at the time, I was mortified.
It was a warm summer evening, and I was sitting on my porch, enjoying the fresh air. I noticed a little creature scurrying around in the bushes, and I thought, "Aww, what a cute little cat!" I called out to it, "Here, kitty, kitty!"
The creature came closer, and I realized it wasn't a cat at all. It was a raccoon! I jumped up and screamed, and the raccoon ran away.
I couldn't believe I had mistaken a raccoon for a cat. I mean, they don't even look alike! Raccoons are black and white, and cats are usually brown, black, or white. And raccoons have long tails, and cats have short tails.
But I guess I was just so tired that I didn't notice the differences. I was so embarrassed, but I couldn't help but laugh at myself.
After that, I made sure to get a good night's sleep before I went out looking for any more cats.
A few weeks later, I was walking home from work, and I saw a cat sitting on a fence. This time, I was sure it was a cat. I called out to it, "Here, kitty, kitty!"
The cat looked at me, and then it ran away.
I was so confused. I thought, "Maybe it's just a shy cat." But then I realized that the cat had a long tail.
It was a raccoon!
I couldn't believe it. I had mistaken a raccoon for a cat again!
I started to laugh, and the raccoon ran away.
I guess I'm just not very good at telling the difference between cats and raccoons. But hey, at least I can laugh at myself!
