Governor Kathy Hochul

Kathy Hochul made history on August 24th, 2021, when she became New York's first female governor, and what a journey it has been! Born in Buffalo, New York, on August 27th, 1958, Kathy Hochul's rise to the governorship is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service.
Hochul's lifelong passion for helping others began at an early age. Growing up in a working-class family, she witnessed firsthand the struggles that many faced. This experience instilled in her a deep sense of empathy and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those around her.
Her political career began in 1994 when she was elected to the Hamburg Town Board. She served in this role for four years before being elected to the Erie County Legislature in 1998. In 2007, she was elected to the New York State Senate, where she quickly made a name for herself as a strong advocate for working families and the middle class.
In 2014, Hochul was elected Lieutenant Governor of New York State, serving under Governor Andrew Cuomo. As Lieutenant Governor, she played a key role in many of the state's most important initiatives, including the passage of the SAFE Act, which strengthened gun control laws in New York.
When Cuomo resigned in August 2021, Hochul became the 57th Governor of New York State. Since taking office, she has made history by signing a number of important pieces of legislation, including the Reproductive Health Act, which codifies the right to abortion in New York State, and the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, which legalizes recreational marijuana in the state.
Governor Hochul is a strong believer in the power of government to make a positive impact in the lives of its citizens. She is committed to working with the people of New York to build a more just, equitable, and prosperous future for all.
