Groucho Club - Legend Amongst Clubs

By: A Cognoscente
My first visit to London was almost 30 years ago, and one of my most vivid memories is of dining at a place my friend R described as one of the great institutions of the city. He told me it had once been a gentlemen’s club, but was now open to the public. The food was excellent, the service impeccable, and the surroundings stylish yet comfortable. There was a palpable feeling of history in the air.
That was my introduction to the Groucho Club, and I’ve often thought about it since. It’s a place that has always intrigued me, and I’ve been fortunate enough to visit it on several occasions over the years.
The Groucho Club was founded in 1985 by a group of journalists, writers, and artists who were looking for a place to socialize and exchange ideas. The club was named after the comedian Groucho Marx, who was known for his wit and his love of good company.
The Groucho Club quickly became a popular haunt for London's creative elite. Members have included some of the biggest names in arts, media, entertainment, and politics.
The atmosphere at the Groucho Club is relaxed and informal. Members dress casually. The club has a strict no-mobile-phone policy, which creates a sense of privacy and allows for uninterrupted conversation.
The Groucho Club is a place where people can come to relax, socialize, and be themselves. It’s a place where ideas are exchanged, friendships are formed, and memories are made.
If you're looking for a place to experience the best of London's creative scene, the Groucho Club is the place to go.
