Gypsy

Growing up, being called a "Gypsy" was an almost daily occurrence. It was a word that stung, that cut deep, and that left me feeling like an outsider. I would try to explain that I wasn't a Gypsy, but most people wouldn't believe me.

I remember one time when I was in middle school, I was sitting in the cafeteria eating lunch when a group of boys came up to me. They started calling me names, and one of them even pushed me. I was so scared and didn't know what to do.

I ran out of the cafeteria and went to the bathroom, where I cried for hours. I felt so alone and so different. I just wanted to be like everyone else, but I couldn't.

The next day, I went to the principal's office and told her what had happened. She was very understanding and talked to the boys who had bullied me. They were suspended for a week, and I never had any problems with them again.

I'm sharing my story because I want other people who are being bullied to know that they're not alone. There are people who care about you and want to help you. Don't be afraid to reach out for help.

I also want to educate people about the term "Gypsy." It's a hurtful word that has been used to discriminate against Romani people for centuries. Romani people are a proud and resilient people who deserve to be treated with respect.

If you hear someone using the term "Gypsy" in a negative way, please speak up. Let them know that it's not okay to use that word.

It's time to end the discrimination against Romani people. It's time to embrace diversity and celebrate our differences.

I am proud to be a Romani woman. I am proud of my culture and my heritage. I will not be bullied or silenced. I will continue to speak out against discrimination, and I will continue to fight for the rights of Romani people.
