Hackney shooting: Community in shock as man, 23, gunned down in busy street




The community of Hackney is in shock after a 23-year-old man was shot dead in a busy street on Saturday night. The victim, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot multiple times. Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which they believe was a targeted attack.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing several gunshots at around 10pm on Saturday night. A resident in a nearby home said: "I heard what sounded like five or six gunshots. I looked out of the window and saw a man lying on the ground. He wasn't moving."

The victim was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Police have cordoned off the area around the shooting and are carrying out a detailed forensic examination.

The Met Police's Homicide and Major Crime Command is investigating the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are appealing for witnesses to this horrific incident. We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time and we believe that someone may have seen what happened. We would also like to hear from anyone who has any information about the victim or the motive for this attack."

The shooting has shocked the community of Hackney. Local residents have expressed their condolences to the victim's family and friends, and have called for an end to the violence that is plaguing the area.

One resident said: "This is a terrible tragedy. This young man had his whole life ahead of him. It is senseless."

Another resident said: "We are a close-knit community and we are all in shock. We need to come together and put an end to this violence. We need to make our streets safe again."
