HMRC Child Benefit
Child Benefit is a monthly payment from the government to families with children. It's paid for each child under 16, or under 20 if they're in full-time education or approved training.
The amount of Child Benefit you get depends on the number of children you have and their ages. You can get £21.15 a week for your first child, £14.40 a week for your second child, and £10.30 a week for each additional child.
You can claim Child Benefit if you're responsible for bringing up a child who lives with you. This includes biological children, adopted children, stepchildren, and foster children.
To claim Child Benefit, you need to fill in a claim form and send it to HMRC. You can do this online, by phone, or by post.
Once you've claimed Child Benefit, it will be paid into your bank account every four weeks.
Child Benefit is a tax-free payment, so you don't have to pay any tax on it. However, if you have a high income, you may be required to pay back some of your Child Benefit through your tax return.
If you're not sure whether you're eligible for Child Benefit, or if you have any questions about claiming it, you can contact HMRC.
