How Long Does It Take To Replace Green Card

Are you applying to renew your green card because it is expired or about to expire? Are you wondering how long does it take to replace the green card? Are you wondering what are the steps involved and what you need to do to renew your green card?

In this article I will tell you all the steps you need to take to renew your green card and how long it will take until you have your new green card in hand.

The time to get your green card replacement changes from year to year depending on the workload at USICS. Currently, it takes anywhere between 1.5 months to 12 months until you get your green card.

However, if you need to travel outside the US during this time, you can apply for a travel permit that allows you to leave the country and return back. If you are applying for a job and need residency proof you can get a letter from USICS that validates your green card so you can apply for the job.

Renewing green card is a 4 step process:

  1. Fill the I-90 to apply for the renewal of the green card. This form is also known as “Application To Replace Permanent Resident Card”.

  2. Gather your supporting documents to file with your green card renewal application.

  3. Pay the fees for green card renewal.

  4. Submit paperwork and wait to receive your new green card.

You can file the green card renewal application online or by mail.

Renewing your green card is not a complicated matter. All you have to do is submit your application and pay the fees. Once you file your application you will receive a receipt for your application.

This will be followed by an appointment to appear for biometrics where they will take your fingerprints etc. And that is it. Now you just have to wait for your green card to arrive.
