The whole concept of Lutheranism highly emphasized the importance of education among the children, something that the Catholic community did not really emphasized. Many colleges and seminaries were created as a result of this.

Lutheranism highly emphasized rational thinking when it came to reading the scriptures. Unlike most followers of Catholicism, Lutherans learn to question the scriptures and gain a deeper and better understand of what they see. This is the whole essence that the late Martin Luther wanted to impart. Although Luther did not intend to create his own faction, he made his own branch of Christianity and built churches with his teachings in order to spread what he knows about the scriptures.

Now the thing about Catholic practices is that although Luther opposed a lot of them, he still adopted some into his own teachings. Now he only adopted the ones that do not contradict with the scriptures. So if one would go to a Lutheran church, it would feel a little bit similar to the Catholic ones.
