A never-Trump Republican wants enough Republican electors to vote for Romney or another moderate Republican in hopes that the Republican Congress will get to make the decision. I guess the idea is that enough Blue Dog Democrats would go along with Republicans willing to dump Trump to elect the moderate Republican when Congress has to decide among the top Three electoral voter winners.
One could argue that is more reflective of the voters' decision than electing either Clinton or Trump since neither won a majority of popular votes. Three tickets consisting of Republicans or former Republican did win a majority when added together-- Trump/Pence + Johnson/Weld + McMullin/Finn.
Maybe even Trump supporters would go along if the faithless electoral votes go to Pence as President with someone like Kelly Ayotte as VP (after all Trump selected Pence to become President if Trump is unable to do the job). Pence could return the compliment by naming Trump as his chief of staff, and bring in some Blue Dogs by giving cabinet posts to Clinton and Ben Nelson for example.
